Edit: No, Revelations was NOT good. The story is all over the place, and entangles with each other, and it's just so messy that despite the incredible final battle, the damage had been done and instead of fulfilled you're left with a feeling of confusion.
THIS is better because the sub plots did not interfere with the main story, instead they all ENCOURAGED the main story and flowed in a linear fashion. It has nothing to do with hating women, nor are people angry at something new. People hated the last because it's messy and uncoordinated in story telling. But yes, there's also the issue that Smith lied to us, on contrast to how he kept his word this time around
