If you pull on the shedding skin of a reptile and it doesn’t require force to come off then it is ok to help the reptile shed. If it has shedding skin on it eye then it must be removed or it can cause problems for the reptile. A majority of the time this is not recommended with people with no experience but if you know your animal and when you need to help it shed it’s skin then there is no harm and can sometimes be recommended to prevent any shed in its eye.

I love when people have never owned a reptile in there life but because they know everything about any subject they chime in saying what she’s doing is wrong and abuse. Yes it’s ok to help it off when it gets to that point and proper humidity would help but that’s not hurting the tegu.

you shouldn't peel the skin off, really you need to let them soak and things like the correct diet will also help with future shedding

i dont think they should be ripping it off soaking would of be better

Is it ok to peel off the “shedding?” The lizard seems agitated :/

Shouldn’t they let it shed naturally instead of pulling it? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Please don’t pull the skin off. It is not helping it. You have to let it happen naturally. If you want to help it shed give the skin more moisture. Maybe use a clean spray bottle.

skin should be shed naturally, you can cause pain forcefully pulling it off...

First off it was ready to come off of the tegu, and also you have to pull off the shed off of your lizard only if it’s ready because if it’s on their for too long then it can cause some serious problems to the tegu and can cause some bacteria infections on the lizard which can lead to skin rotting. So as much as y’all say that she wasn’t supposed to pull it off, she did the right thing to help the lizard, but it can come off itself at sometimes

That shed was crispy & dry and definitely ready to be taken off before he causes damage to himself by rubbing on the viv etc to get it off

Aw, don't pull it. Get him a log with bark still on. Something natural, that looks like torture.

Aren't they supposed to rub themselves on rough surfaces? That looks painful.

I don't even own a reptile and even I know you're not supposed to forcefully pull off the shedding skin. 🙄

if this was a snake and the shedding process has been already started it wouldn’t hurt the just hold the shedding skin as the snake slithers out.But lizards shed in patches so the skin on his cheek could’ve been ready to come off but the skin on his head might have not been ready to come and and forcefully peeling it off like that can actually hurt the lizard and they can get an infection so unless the skin is just sitting on top of the lizards body and fully off then you can help out which you should in little lizards toes because then blood circulation can get cut off after a long time of the SHED skin sitting on top.(also notice the redness on this lizards head that’s because the skin wasent ready to come off and that could cause an infection)
