Dueling on the backs of war elephants is just about the most metal and badass-looking battle you can have in real life.

Just wanted to let you know you’re THE channel that got me into YouTube. I love REAL history (basically anything but what we learn in America) and you pulled me in with intriguing and interesting content. Thank you!

Much of the vital information was withheld:
1) Burmese King was not called by name in this video, but in fact it was 2 separate kings that he should have talked about: Prince Naresuan was taken in by king Bayinnaung, he treated hostage prince well and Naresuan was a loyal vassal to him. Tide changed when Bayinnaung died and his son, Nanda Bayin ascended the throne. Nanda Bayin wanted to live up to his father, whose achievments were legendary already in his lifetime, which was one of main circumstances that swayed him to continue conquests, while exhausting both his and his vassals finances. It was this wanton warmongering, that made Naresuan betray him.
2) Back in the day, Burmese were not seen as oppressive overlords. If anything, Thai people used to look up to them. Many thai theatre plays tell stories of Burmese kings and heroes, such as king Bayinnaung himself, or prince Minyikyawswa (lived in the beginning of 15th century) or viceroy Minyiswa (son of king Nanda Bayin, one that duelled Naresuan). King Bayinnaung is remembered in Thailand as true chakravartin (in hindu-buddhist tradition title given to a highly moral, just and benevolent ruler), and an exemplary ruler.
3) Burmese sources say Minyeswa was killed by a mortar shell, not a mercenary. Though foreign mercenaries were known to had been used as artillerists and musketeers, we do not know if that was the case here in particular.

Absolute best channel on YT. It's a shame he doesn't get monetization and essentially does all videos and research for free.

Unknown5, I would join a Patreon if you added one to your channel! Thank you for all you do in the YT community!

I lived in a place called Kanchanburi Thailand close to the pass they fought in. They also had a fight with just two roosters. Naresuan was bad ass and much loved in Thai culture! The movies are excellent. The studio was just outside of town near Prasat Nuang Sing so it was a great place have fun. That gun was crazy long, I saw a lot of the props used in the movies.

Love your work as always. Great story, great storytelling.
If you want to release more frequently with shorter videos, I'm here for it.
I love your long videos, great for just starting dinner or something like that.
I'm just saying, if YOU want to release videos that have a single great story like this, you needn't be worried that your subscribers won't be here for it.
I'm subbed and notified, and ready for whatever fascinating subject you talk about next.

I've been gone for a while but I still have to say that these are the best history videos on Youtube, at least top 3. The level of detail in these videos is so much deeper despite how concise you are. It's always a joy listening to you talk about history's worst dismemberments. You deserve a bigger following than you have.

The famous duel that took place in 1592, between the Burmese royal crown prince and king Naresuan the great, of Siam, was notably disputed by some historians as dramatical without element of truth, but Burmese conquest and subjugation of Siam was neutralised over the next two centuries, before finally dominating them again in 1767.
