Here’s something you should know. One of the greatest things about doing farmers’ walks is you can massively decrease your chances of an injury, compared to a deadlift.
This study compared the biomechanical characteristics of farmers' walks, deadlifts, and unloaded walks in six experienced male strongman athletes performing at 70% of their 1RM deadlift.
The farmers' walk showed significant differences with greater trunk extension, thigh angle, knee flexion, and ankle dorsiflexion at knees passing. It exhibited significantly greater mean vertical and anterior forces compared to the deadlift.
Overall, it suggests that the farmers' lift is a much safer and more effective alternative to the deadlift, generating more anterior-propulsive and vertical force with less stress on the lumbar spine due to a more vertical trunk position.
