I do the farmer's walk three times a week with 20 kg (44 lbs) in each hand, but with the twist that I do this walking up and down stairs. I live on the 6th floor in an apartment building, and walk down to the ground floor, and back up 6 floors of stairs, then repeat three more times, while holding 40 kg (88 lbs) of weight. It takes me 15 to 20 minutes, and is a fantastic strength and fitness exercise. I am 58 years old, so this exercise is a great way to keep me in shape.

I've been powerlifting for 35 years. I broke multiple world records. Two years ago I mysteriously developed terrible pain from my neck, down to my SI joint. I spent 1.5 years getting tests, seeing different doctors, and they all told me I was fine and there was nothing to explain the pain I had.

I watched 100s of YouTube videos and finally tried farmers' walks. I felt instant relief. Now, 6 months later, I am not 100%, but I am much, much better.

Tip: watch out when you make a turn with a heavier weght in your hands, don't twist your knee joints too harsh or too fast or you can get injured.

Been doing this for years....5 days a strength builder ever ...I'm 50 years old, look 30, with 11% body fat....I attribute 90% of that to diet and farmers carries.

This seems like the fitness industry’s best kept secret. I haven’t seen many people discuss this as a must include exercise. I started seeing people doing these on the indoor track at my gym. Today I grab some 50lbs and did a lap while trying to get some steps in. My traps and forearms feel amazing DOMS.

I’m 71 218 doing 4 sets total 200 yards with 80 pounds. I do it as a finish to my workout 3-5 days a week. Great exercise

Single arm version of these is so Honestly, every single arm exercise is good haha. Single arm push press, Single arm/single leg rdl and farmer carries are probably the best exercises ever.

Well done video. Farmers carry is great for strengthening the core, shoulders, traps and more. At my gym I seem to be the only one who does them.

On the farm we did a 5 gallon bucket of water in both hands. When you got good enough and didn't want to make 10 trips to the troughs. You would carry two per hand.

I have recently begun to incorporate these into my garden chores. I use an assortment of objects including bags of sand, a large planter filled with soil and a decent sized rock.

I was carrying 5 gallon buckets of water up a hill to water our cows everyday in my youth and was able to deadlift 400lb at football tryouts as a junior in highschool.

One tip is missing: When walking, take only half steps. Big/regular steps will cause injury. Aside from that, this is an excellent tutorial. I do this exercise daily (and no other) to keep in top shape. 60lbs. each hand. Will soon be age 70.
