The British named the ocean the Indian Ocean frankly and Indonesia too came from India ( Indonesia literally means " Indian Islands ", talk about European obsession of India )...
So frankly when 2 of these countries are dominant in the ocean, I don't see why not name it Indian Ocean...

Bharatiya Mahasagar (Indian Ocean) is an oldest sea region domimated mainly my Indian mainland Kings, Thrones, eg Marathas, Cholas, Cheras and so many dynasties came and Indian ocean dominance is from centuries due to TRADE as, before whites Came to India, it was 30 % of world economy
