Roy Haynes, influential drummer with a vibrant style, dies at 99. Roy Haynes, a jazz drummer who ignited the rhythmic fire on landmark performances by Charlie Parker, Chick Corea and Pat Metheny, and inspired countless other musicians by expanding the musical vocabulary of his instrument over an eight-decade career, died Nov. 12 in Oceanside, N.Y. He was 99. The death was confirmed by his daughter, Leslie Haynes-Gilmore, but no cause was noted.
