Absolutely remarkable! And lest we forgot that he also has a son Graham Haynes - a cornetist; another son Craig Holiday Haynes and a grandson Marcus Gilmore (both are drummers).

Greg, I saw Roy Haynes live on his 80 th birthday. I sat slumped over my seat, before the show thinking to myself, ''Roy's too old, but maybe the others guys in the band will be entertaining''. When Roy's drumstick, first hit the drumhead, my spine straightened right out, and I knew I was in the right place. It was the best drum performance that I've ever experienced, it was like a symphony for the drum. When the show ended I ran through the crowd, and up on stage to shake his hand. I looked in his eyes and said, ''Roy, You're a real Motherfucker!!''. He smiled at me and said, ''I know'', we both laughed, and he gave me a piece of his birthday cake.

He subbed in for Elvin Jones on some of Coltrane's recordings. Lots of work with Chick Corea and like you mentioned with Pat Metheny. Loved his trio with John Patituci and Danilo Perez, also a great collaboration with Gary Burton, Dave Holland, Metheny and Corea called Like Minds. Great stuff!

Wow! 97 and still going. I know I have a lot of albums with him drumming on them. Some of the ones you showed I didn't even remember he was on. I'll have to give one a spin today in honor.

You skipped over Sarah Vaughan's Mercury debut (with Clifford Brown), a top-40 all time Jazz LP. 🤫 Roy's reach was pretty amazing. Thankful to own many of those.

And of course Sonny Rollins played with Parker on some early Miles Davis recordings.
