I live in Kansas and I can tell you now: our seafood is great!! We get it fresh from Texas and Alabama. There is a place in independence Kansas out by their dollar general and it has a half human half shrimp sign and their catfish is AMAZING.

I’ve eaten in a dozen coastal shantytown restaurants and none of them had good seafood. It’s definitely supply and quality of that supply. The farther inland restaurants got first pick on fish and shellfish so the quality was higher. But I will say that I haven’t tried all of those restaurants and may have not found the out of the way ones with great seafood so we shall see.

Try Egyptian food, I recommend koshari, Molokhia, and falafel. Koshari is a traditional Egyptian staple, mixing pasta, rice and brown lentils, and topped with a zesty tomato sauce, garlic vinegar and garnished with chickpeas and crispy fried onions.Molokhia, also Mulukhia is a green soup made from minced Jews/Jute mallow leaves and cooked in broth.Falafel, or ta'ameya as we call it in Egypt, is an all-time favorite street food. Yes the Geico Commercial Pitch was so Impromptu and NOT staged. Sounded really UNrehearsed and UNplanned. And yes the food looked insanely tempting. I can devour all that delicious food in 5 minutes or less including the Churros with the dipping sauce.

As a chef that's worked all over the world, with my main training being done in Miami and Wisconsin. I will say, because of Chicago being a major hub, I can get better seafood in wisconsin then I can in Miami.

Jarocho it's how you call the people from Veracruz, a state in Mexico, they are right there in the Gulf of Mexico, so it's understandable they have good food there if the owners came from that place. 🙈
