- Rsync is mainly a synchronization tool but you can use it with BTRFS or OPENZFS to have snapshots

- Kopia is the newest backup tool with an official GUI

- Borg is a mature backup tool with good performance

- Restic is also interesting

Very interesting results on some tools I have not heard of until now. I am interested in them all and thank you for the introduction!

This is good work. Now I know what I want to go with. I feel like Borg is the sweet spot, especially with Borgmatic or Vorta.

I just did a similar comparsion and got very different results. The backup was about 6 TB, including very large VMs, about 300 GB of source code, roughly 200k photos and video files. The machine was a 32 core server with a 4 disk RAID 5 and the backup was to a 10TB USB attached drive. The filesystem was ext4 on both (and you have me thinking about moving my raid to btfs). Borg was unable to finish the backup, it would hang on one of the VM files. Resitc was so slow that I canceled the backup and kopia was the only one that finished. I was really disappointed with both borg and restic. I watched both CPU and IO and neither seem to max out either resource. But, to be honest... My experiments were "back of the knapkin" vs doing a controlled experiment that you did. My conclusion is that backup and backup performance is based on machines, media, filesystem and file types and sizes. Thanks for the video!

Great job!! What about comparing the top 2 or 3 reliability and recovery recovery rates? I heard urbackup shines there along w closed source veem (but free for personal), and Macrium reflect, but can't find anything in Borg etc
