I’ve been stuck on killer sudoku for a while now, but him mentioning the the rule of 45 opened so many doors and made me wonder how I didn’t think of it earlier

I'm quite new to 'killer' sudoko and have struggled to complete some of them. These videos however, have been an absolute godsend and I'm now able to tackle them without the dread in which I first encountered them. Thanks for all of your solves they really do help me in my puzzling. 👍

lol... i see the comments about how much you have improved... but this is the first time i have seen your video and i was going to comment about how great and helpful it was. I saw another video about solving a 6x6 killer sudoku and it was too simple to help me. Thanks for your video!

Fabulous explanation. It makes perfect sense. Thank you for your invaluable insights. Logical but not obvious to me. I have just applied your logic and am so happy I can now tackle the expert level.

So the sum to 45 seems the key. Thanks!

I did not know about the 45 rule! I was already doing everything else but the 45 rule helped me solve a super hard killer sudoku without a single mistake

Great! I try to find cages hanging out of grids and figure out what would the outsides of the grid add to. Squares that stick out of the grid can contain the same number. I also take the add to 45 in grid rule, then drawing new cages in my head, then knowing that the amount of the out squares of each overlapping cage must be the difference of the overlapping cages . I've been getting killer sudokus harder than this one and keep starting over if I keep getting a conflict. It means I did something wrong.

Excited that I almost matched Simon’s time, although I’m not narrating my thoughts on the puzzle. Nice to see where ctc started from!

Besides the killer maths and adding to 45, you could also get the 8 in box 7 by saying the 14 next to it has to be 59, because 68 is ruled out by the 36 pair in box 9. Which also leaves 8 as the only number to be placed.

I’ve never played a game of sudoku in my life, why am I here at 3 AM

I have never before seen another player complete a killer sudoku, but it seems to me that this is nowhere near a Deadly standard. I have been doing The Times KS every day that a Deadly one is available, and I was hoping to find an insight into techniques that are more efficient than my own.

I'm sure I would need pencil marks at some point. However, I can see in R7 the 9 cage is 3 & 6, the 14 cage is 4 & 9 and the two cells not part of the 7 cage must be 7 & 8. By adding the cages totals in C8 & 9 you will see that R3C7 must be 9, From that you can fill out 6 numbers in the bottom horizontal chute before starting to notate. Good solving here, and I am trying to improve my killer skills.

I have been stuck on one for quite awhile, any suggestions where I can go to get advice on it.

Hi there! Do you ever come across a killer sudoku puzzle that by the end requires a real guess? I’ve got one that comes down to choices between to sets of numbers and I don’t see a way to logic my way through!
