Could having PhD on a resume be seen as "unemployable"?
There are several popular concerns from the perspective of a hiring manager. If we are careful about the following points, we can help hiring managers see the value we bring!

1. Don't be an Expert
- Instead of trying to "prove yourself", learn from the other and maximize the team performance
2. Being overly critical
- When you disagree, propose a solution!
3. Learn to faster decisions
- There is no "Perfect" decisions, learning how to efficient decisions and take ownership is valuable

Watch the original video by Dr. David Giltner

A little back story to share:
This interview was recorded during David's vacation in Paris. It was a long workday for me, and we had this recorded quickly after lunch.....After I got home from work, I realized the video was not properly saved!

I had to find a creative way to present the interview with the audio I had!
So, hope you all still enjoy the additional visuals I have prepared for this interview!

In fact, I think this situation mirrors what David has discussed in the video, that industry is about trying to figure out how to make it work, rather than focusing on what is wrong.

And, I did get a "Nice job!" by David :)

Cool stuff Vera! I can tell; PhDs often linger with answering questions, trying to come up with a perfect answer instead of giving a safe one and going forward. The speed of answering questions is the speed of the project going forward. If your know how is 2x better than another employee but your speed of answering is 10x slower, it effectively means that your productivity is only 20% of the productivity of that employee.

This is an excellent video. It shares very big ideas that the industry values but never quite articulate. The directors intuitively know them and just stay away from hiring PhDs.

Thanks for this inspiring video. I have been a post doc over a year so far. I'd love to try to work in industry. I am currently in Japan.

That he paid for your lunch then I am sure he isn't German...just kidding.

The industry is my thing and a path I choose to toe. Thank you for bringing him.
