This is exactly what I do to drain a little bit of water before/after a big rain storm since my pool was built without an automatic spill

Only use the this method to drain a little water out but once you get to the Jets you really need to use an External pump since sucking in air from the jets will fry your equipment and it takes 4 days or more with a good size pool of 11X26x5. You can get an external pump for $64/day. This pump will drain a pool in 1 night.
