"Memory of Water" by Emmi Itäranta, I've read it yesterday. Just wanted to do 2-3 hours reading and then some housework... Well... Put on "dark fantasy cello music for deep focus" and give it a go! Eerie, poetic, dystopian, catching in it's strange beauty, Emmi writes beautifully. Couldn't stop!

Recently? Dungeon Crawler Carl. A page-turner and just so downright absurd and easily digestible. I had a lot of fun reading that.

About a month ago I took Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer from the library, and I started to read it in the car while my partner grabbed something from the grocery store, and I was HOOKED from page one. I could barely put it down in the car so I wouldn’t get motion sickness when we started driving again.

The Invocations by Krystal Sutherland ( witchy, dark and one of my favourite reads this year). Every Exquisite Thing by Laura Stevens and Little Thieves by Margaret Owen also. And just finished A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher, could not put it down!

Older book, but for me it was Dawn by Octavia Butler. The first page alone raised a ton of questions I wanted answered, and as the book went on I was on the edge of my seat to see what would happen.

Empire of the Vampire, the first page sets a tone for the world like nothing else I've ever read.

Clive Barker, Weaveworld. “Nothing ever begins. There is no first moment from which this or any other story springs…” followed immediately by engaging action and characterization. Also, The Damnation Game, with a peculiar bit of gambling amid the ruins in 1945 Germany.

Also, Kristine Kathryn Rusch’s Diving Universe series, which has kept me moving through more than a dozen novellas and novels, each strongly opening with solid hooks and rewarding my attention each time.
