The S5 mark II is amazing! You'll love it! I got it a few days ago and have filmed a wedding with it. It's so awesome having great autofocus - I've been doing video on Lumix cameras exclusively and have always had to deal with manual focus.

I will continue to predominantly shoot film, but as I'm mostly shooting black and white and develop at home, the cost increase hasn't been that steep for me thus far

Film is special occasion stuff now... not that I shot it all the time; my main camera is a Nikon Z6 and I shot film alongside. I will still use film alongside digital for portraits, and also for my analogue-exclusive documentary photography projects, but that's about it. Maybe special occasions for landscape (Velvia in autumn, for example). Maybe the vision 3 stocks will be a feasible alternative?

I think film will be still a special occasion thing for me so the price going up won’t cause me too so using it completely. I have thought about getting a lot to develop and scan at home, which I may do at some point. That would pay for itself pretty quickly and seems fun.

Due to the price on film going through the roof, I feel I am slowing down in my photography. I have become more and more selective with my shots and I guess that feeling is going to be stronger and stronger. Many time to stock up on bulk film, for the future. Great video, as always! Keep up the good work!

I started buying 400 feet reels of Kodak Vision3 cinema film and bulk loading. I can roll about 77 rolls of 36exposure. In my opinion this is better than Cinestill film because the anti-halation layer hasn’t been removed. I also develop and scan my own film which is a must if you’re using cinema film and want to keep your costs as low as possible.

I shoot mostly black and white. I buy 100ft/30.5m rolls and dev at home. I also scan at home. I'm shooting less and less color negative film. I bought a 400ft roll (equivalent to 72 36 eposure rolls) of ektachrome e100D which is cheaper per roll than a roll of C41 film.

Just tell me one thing that has gotten cheaper? Can’t think of anything. B&W Film has been stable in price and still affordable. Kodak prices at my local dealer have come down for Gold and Portra 400 now between 6€ for the entry level film and 10-12€ for Portra400. Ok, Portra 800 is still nuts but it’s a specialist film. If I look at most YT street photography channels they snap it away like it’s M&M’s…can’t be that bad but everyone joins the whining.

Kodak is abusing its monopoly on the film market, and they kept none of their promises with previous price increases. They promised more availability, yet almost no stock anywhere.
I'm shooting Vision3 now mostly, have a few 400H left, probably moving on to shooting digital with Fuji after.

I will not give up shooting film and i will keep buying rols of film. Recently (in order to cut the costs) what i have done is to get a film scanner instead of going to a lab.

I will use up my color 135 rolls which are in the fridge. And that’s it for color (I do not expect prices to go down again).

Meanwhile I go on with b/w 135 rolls but have switched to cheaper material like APX 100/400.

don't think I will stop completely, but I do think I will plan my shots better, film & digital!

So glad to see you back! Honestly, I have not been a film shooter but I've thought seriously over the last year of trying film for my black & white photography. However, I have two Leica M10-P's and an SL2 (mostly landscape camera) and the M10-P's are my favorite cameras of all time. I've been looking at some Leica analog cameras but I'm still on the fence about going down the film rabbit hole. I like the idea of film but the expense of not only the film but the equipment to develop and scan makes me hesitate. I can shoot everyday with no hesitation with my M10s and the files are gorgeous. That being said, the landscape photos you did last year with film were stellar so maybe using film for landscape and digital for street would be a reasonable choice.

When Matt Stuart shoots film on the street like a 'crack habit' I could relate and it's why my film days unfortunately are gone. It's not sustainable for me

As far as I am concerned, Kodak can raise their film prices as high as they want because I stopped buying kodak film back when they declared bankruptcy.

I now only buy Ilford and Fomapan sheet and roll film.

in all your travels, have u ever had film ruined by airport scanners, even the smaller scanners for carry-ons?

Kodak seems to think we are all lottery winners, they are starting to price themselves out of the amateur photography market and that’s not the way to go. From now on I will be shooting other brands and wait and see if Kodak come to their senses before putting themselves out of business.
