Everything Wrong With The Leica

In this video I am talking about the last three years I owned my Leica M4-P it's a brilliant camera but as I don't want to make another Leica fanboy video I am talking about the negative stuff. Spoiler: it's not that much.

My first Leica was an M1 that I used on a microscope while I was in college. When needed, I would use an adapter to mount a 20mm Nikon lens to the body.

My second Leica was an M6 that I primarily used for reportage, street, and documentary. I used 90/35/21mm lenses on my M6.

My third was an M10 digital that I hoped would be as well-made and reliable as my 35mm film Leicas. It was not.

I’ve owned my M4 for 50 years and love it. I’ve just bought an M11 and I’m using it the same way as my M4. The price of the camera is much higher, but - no film to purchase. I still like the old M4 more though..

I have a m4-2 and the only thing that bothers me about it compared to other film cameras is the small shutter speed dial is not quick or easy to use.

Still use the M6 I bought in 1994. It never went through CLA and still works as it did on day 1. The meter has not given up on me yet, and the day it does, it will be just like owning a M4-P. The best photo investment I ever made. ;)

regarding safety on the streets, I am indeed sure that many thieves know the value of a Leica, but a black M with blacked out dot carried over dark clothes remains infinitely less noticeable than any silver chrome body. I have always felt perfectly safe openly carrying my old black M, preferably without a bag. OTOH I would never buy or wear a Rolex or Omega or whatever luxury watch brand.

I think if the cost of film is a deterrent to shooting your camera perhaps a Leica isn't the camera for you. It's like buying a ferrari but don't drive it because you can't afford the insurance!

Leica made the best quality mechanical cameras, cant see the point of buying digital leica, sony makes far better digital cameras .
