My longtime hiking shoes have been the Salomon Speedcrosses, currently have a pair of Speedcross 5’s. I’m on my 4th pair of Salomon’s, they have very durable uppers and have never had tear, always wearing them till the lugs on the tread were gone. I’m over 500 miles on my last pair. The Speedcrosses also fit my long, narrow foot shape better than any shoe I’ve tried. And they dry quickly when wet.

That said, I’m currently trying a pair of Speedgoat 5’s, and I have about 140 miles on them right now. I’m loving the Speedgoats so far. The “rocker” action is noticeable, and they are comparable to the Speedcrosses in general comfort. I think they exceed the comfort of the Speedcrosses when I start to get over 15 or so miles on the day. If they turn out to be as durable as the Speedcrosses, I’ll have a tough decision coming up.

I love my Altra Olympus trail runners! They have the Vibram sole that is super grippy as well.

I’ve been trail running and hiking in hokas for about 9 years now. The soles wear out way too fast…maybe they are so soft for better grip?

Agreed, I switched to Hoka SpeedGoats and they are the best shoes I have used

Been hiking in the Speedgoats for 2 years now. Love them. Was thinking of buying some new shoes this year and after this video I think I'll be ordering a new pair of Hoka's again.

Great review Tayson, I've also tried a number of shoes and the Hoka speedgoats are my favorite. I can't wait till June when the new SG6 come out.

I don't have much of an opinion on Hokas, but super awesome to see the Tayson Whitaker channel and your content thus far!

I just bought my fourth pair of Speedgoats (4 and 5s). I'm a total fan; my feet feel great after massive days. I don't feel any need to bring "camp shoes" while backpacking.

Feet can be so different from one person to another. Finding what works best for you is always a challenge. I most recently went with the Hoka Challenger (wide width) and have been happy with them

I wear HOKA all day long and this has been a game changer for me. I have got to order me a pair for Hiking.

I have had four ankle surgeries. One was labeled as a foot and ankle reconstruction. I could not hike 1 mile without extreme pain for many years. Then I bought a pair of Hoka Stinsons and everthing changed. I was able to work up to 6 to 10 mile days solely because of the Hokas. I am a believer.

I have been considering trying some speedgoat 5s for my Colorado trail trip this summer, this video couldn't have come at a more perfect time for me!

I hiked the PCT last year with the Hoka anacapa breeze. They were really good and very comfortable for high mileage. That was until I bought the Topo Pursuits. By far the best shoe I have ever used. No holes, tears, or issues with tread prematurely wearing. You can get about 600/700 miles on a single pair. I would say give it a go, if you like zero drop.

I'm a huge fan oh Hoka Speedgoats. They are my go to for long hikes and backpacking. I completely agree that less heel to toe drop has taken care of many foot and leg problems I've had in the past. Bigger stack height in the forefoot also changed my life. I went from someone that would get injured on almost every long hike/run and have to take several days off, to being essentially pain free right away. The grip on the Speedgoats is next level too. Just watch out for those Altras. Every pair I've had has broken down VERY quickly.

I'm guessing you have a narrow foot, seeing as how even the wide version of Hoka Speedgoats are too narrow for a good number of people. (I used to work in the footwear section at REI).

Do you have a Colorado Trail video up? I’d love to watch it.

I love my Hoka Speedgoats. I was super suspicious of the massive amount of foam. But they fking rock. And the wear has been great, deapite all of the lughtweight fabrics. I was blown away as well

Speedgoat 5's are the best shoes I've ever owned. I'm walking the PCT this year and those are my weapons of choice.

My narrow heels won’t stay in place in Hoka Speedgoats or Altra Olympus. I’m interested to try Altra’s new Experience Wild which have some similar features as the Speedgoats. Lone Peaks have been my go-to shoes and I’ve never fallen in them. But I’m barely over 5’, so maybe short legs make a difference??? I’m currently using some Timp 4s with zero issues.

So I"m only seeing Hoka Speedgoat 5's out on the market. I assume the 4s was because you bought them a couple of years ago as mentioned. Can anyone comment if the 5's are as good as the Hoka Speedgoat 4s?
