When they go through the mathematics of dancing, vibrating filaments; the composite parts fall out. As it continues the nuclear forces become present. Next E & M. Lastly gravity and relativity come through. String theory is really onto something and if it could be applied experimentally, it would change everything!

the strings are said to be made of pure energy but what does that mean? What excites them to vibrate? Is there a universal bass vibration that everything builds off of?

Ok, so if it’s about what one might imagine, I imagine that strings are composed of even smaller units called strands, and each strand is composed of a series of knots, etc etc etc.

We have String Theory (& its not new), because point particles generate unworkable mathamaticl constructs (like blackhole singularities). So the thought was; hey why not make tiny noodles out of the point particles! And string theory was born. Do they exist? Sure, just like pink unicorns. Both only in our minds.
