Renowned theoretical physicist, Brian Greene, explains string theory as if he's talking to a graduate student of physics and then he boils it down for the rest of us.

Greene is the co-founder of the World Science Festival, which has a new initiative called "City of Science" which is a 5-event series taking place this fall.

"City of Science" is free and open to all New Yorkers of all ages. Learn more about where and when it will take place here. You can also follow the events on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

What if we cut quarks, we find the string, what if we cut the string, we found a meme

So concise, and yet so clear! I've never heard it explained like this before. Now all I have to do is learn all those words he threw at me. I know a few already, but...

I understood about 90% of that first explanation which tells me that I haven't forgotten much since graduate school. Yay!

Then what about a GUITAR STRING?

A string, which is made up of string, which vibrates as the string vibrates!

This is more like how Tolkien described the creation of the universe in the Silmarillion.

Just WOW. Neil Degrasse Tyson, Michio Kaku, Bill Nye, Brian Green, Elon Musk these are the names I believe history will remember as great scientists and engineers that made break through discoveries and drove humanity forward.

Very nice explanation and easy to understand if you are just curious and you just want to learn a little bit of quantum physics. Nice work, keep going as well as you are right now!

Thank you for explaining strings so that a mortal, such as myself, might understand! LOL!

This is how M-Theory was explained by an ET, known as Bashar, that blew my mind. It is as beautiful and simple as scientists hoped it would be: In all of existence there is only one particle (the prime radiant) and it has no mass and can thus travel at infinite speed. The geometric pattern it creates when crossing its own path creates the different kinds of matter we know. So everything is one, literally.

I prefered the first explanation, actually. But he forgot to mention that this two dimensional field theory is so powerful because it is a CFT.

He can always explains deep complicated things into much easier phrases so that we can understand.

VERY INTERESTING 2ND EXPLANATION WAS MUCH CLEARER. THE SIMPLER THE EXPLANATION THE BETTER UNDERSTOOD IT IS. THANK YOU.

This guy is a mathematician AND a theoretical physicist, trust me, he's far, far smarter than all of us and the terms he's using here are not the same as someone speaking some other language that we don't know.
Foreign languages still just describe basic concepts like houses and colors and verbs.
He's describing extremely difficult ideas like a lagrange point.
It takes physics students years to be ABLE to learn what that is mathematically. And that's the simplest idea he mentioned.
So trust, he's smarter than us.

Why the video did not have the formulae? It would have been interesting to see that broken down and explained.
