Hi friends, today we are going to be chatting about my story and how I became a self-taught developer. From teaching myself to code, to going to a Bootcamp (I still consider it on the self-learning path because it was very short and a lot of self-learning still involved).

This is super useful and wise
My story is similar to Tiff's as well
I started out as an interpreter but wasn't convinced, so I tried many things till I got into coding
now I'm a self taught full stack developer in charge of a full team
It took me 4 years
Almost quit couple dozens of times, took many breaks, but everything paid off eventually
The trick is to be patient, persistent, and belive in yourself
The field isn't that easy, but you can definitely get through if you keep at it
Good luck!

Thank you so much!!!! I'm 40, have a 6 month old and thinking of career change and it is very scary even though I'm not making enough money the fear of failure is quite crippling. Your video is inspiring and I believe will help me along!!!

This video is exactly what I needed. I just finished boot camp a month ago and now I’m working as a developer advocate to get my foot in the door. Luckily I have a supportive team but I always feel like I know nothing compared to everyone else.

You're here in this world for a reason: you're helping other people and me as well. Is there any higher purpose of life than helping each other to become better versions of ourselves?

Thanks - you are making a difference... at least to me.

I have an interview this Friday. I am so nervous because I am not sure if I am good enough. And I just watched your video, I almost cried 🥲 I won't give up!!! Thank you!!! ❤

The greatest thing about self-learning is more than just the content and skill being learned but the realization that one perceives about learning in general and his/her cognitive skills to absorb information. Great story, Tiff! Cheers! 😍🤓🥰

Thanks for the video. I love seeing more Independent Women in the Tech industry learning how to program. I’m only 20 years old and I program a GameBoy game on the Play Store and gotten a in the Nintendo Developer Portal but all the basic Programming I did was self taught and then founded Mattolina LLC which lead to me being verified on google and created Bianca Ai Chat and use Arch Linux. But I really enjoy your videos because more people should take advantage of the internet and be self taught because it easy then ever. I’m proud that we have more self taught women and people in the tech industry.🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊

I really appreciate this video. I’m trying to get my foot in the door to be a web developer. Also mostly self taught and taking classes, I have had moments of wanting to give up. But a voice in the back of my head and the support I get from my instructors tell me don’t give up. I really appreciate your encouragement also. Positive energy!!

I've started learning HTML and jumped to JS... now I'm thinking about going back to HTML and take it slowly then move towards CSS and THEN go to JavaScript.
Yep, you're right. It's not always that easy but with persistence, we will get there.
I think coding is really cool and fascinating, someday I'm going to be writing my own code!

I started learning about a month ago and I have questioned my decision so many times,
then I found your channel and I just loved your videos, they keep me motivated and I just
really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, thank you so much!
Your positive vibe is amazing!

Thanks for this video, Tiff. I began my coding journey about 2 weeks ago and every so often I wonder whether I am wasting my time - with syntax, for example, it is difficult for me to understand that I don't have to remember everything (and that using documentation is not 'cheating'). I've found that learning to code is most rewarding when I take a step back and realize how much progress I am making and may make during the next month or two. The opportunity is endless and I truly love being able to create. Your videos keep me motivated and entertained, while also allowing me to dream. For that I thank you!

I started with basic programming as a young teen in the 80s. I then moved to turbo pascal, then turbo C++, in the early 90s, I became a phone technician and started writing DOS applications that I used to program special phone equipment. In the 2000s i did web, javascript, and SQL. Then I got a job as a systems admin. I learned shell scripting. I then started learning to write unix utils in Windows. I started writing tcpip utilities even my own web servers. I did multithreading and parallel programming.

You are a positive breath of fresh air. It is great to hear your story. I am on my own journey towards being self-taught and only time will tell how far I can take this. Thanks for your inspiration. Keep up the great work!! 😄👍

It’s really nice to see someone transition from the arts to a software engineer. A lot of self taught people are already in stem so this is refreshing. As a Actor in Toronto I’m really thinking of taking the big leap into coding.

I loved computer stuff since 10year-ish old (my dad bought me an intel 386dx machine), I graduated with my degree in comp science, and YET I don't even work in the computer industry, because I realized that I've no strong logical thinking in coding stuff.

but recently I watched plenty of "a day in my life as data analysts/soft engineer" kind of stuff. It perks me curiously once again.

I will learn more about phyton, SQL stuff, excel data analysis, etc.

thanks for your video. It encourages me to start learning to program.

The comment about people not being smarter than you always and they just have more experience really resonates with me! Thank you for this video! It was very helpful!
