A true and fascinating artist. gone much too soon.
It's such a shame that he's so little known in Germany.

Sehr schönes Video in Gedenken an Klaus Nomi, der viel zu früh diesen Planeten wieder verlassen musste.

This song is just such a fantastic expression of the early '80s Zeitgeist. With Reagan and Thatcher circa 1980, the nuclear arms race revived after the Detente era and there were huge global protests in response -- the biggest in New York in 1982 (according to Wikipedia) -- but also across Europe, especially in Germany, because of the proposed deployment of short-range nukes there. A whole subgenre of New Wave music came out of this, the best known example being Nena's "99 Luftballoons" in 1983. But this song and "Total Eclipse, " which it references, clearly belong to this movement, and are even more interesting artistically IMO. We could use this attitude toward nukes again today!! Just sayin' ...
