Better use strong boy at high and low levels. Or better stil needles higg and low. Acro from ground outside is unknown strength.. but we know the wall below holds wallabove so strongboy or needle from lower wall to upper wall ( say 1metre above ground height fie low strongboy to uppee where you put strongboy )

I’ve Removed a few windows myself and it’s always dicey … there’s always a sprung steel encased in concrete lintel over the span, that overhangs each lateral side by 20-40cm … as I understand, this transfers and distributed any weight above equally to each side wall. It’s how bridges or aqua ducts are also engineered.

Ur soldier course acts like a modern lintel - we don’t use those here any more.

Apparently an arch also does this - and spreads weigh more evenly - but I’ve never done an arch window.

You should of had a minimum of two strong boys and taken the soldiers out before the frame

Pretty careful and meticulous work there. Nicely done

Built in the days when the original timber frame was used to support the soldier course. How they managed to replace the timber with UPVC and not lose the soldiers is beyond me, as the installers would not have known the soldier course wasnt tied to the internal lintol. Installers should have fitted a new external lintol, Dangerous to leave it resting on the UPVC frame.
