A dear friend of mine has a fig tree, every year she goes on vacation before they are ripe and when she gets back something horrible has happened...a strange frost killed them off, a neighbor steals them, something... So even though she always intends to give me buckets full to make preserves, I never get any figs! LOL! Guess it's time for me to buy my own tree!

Thank you for this tip. I'm in East Texas. Last year I planted 2 fig trees that died back to the ground over the winter. I have been searching for fig care tips for southerners to try to prevent this. I want to say that I really enjoy your videos. New subscriber, and I've been learning a lot from DSH. Bless you!

Came here via dirtpatchheaven.  Been through all your videos.  Liked and shared.  Subscribed on the first one. Be safe and keep them coming.

Thanks for sharing. My two fig trees are close to my house. I never realized the roots were that close to the surface. In the 20 years we haven't gotten a freeze that has harmed my trees, but it won't hurt anything to put leaves around the base of the figs and the Loquat tree. Thanks again for sharing.

Cool! Very informative, I have never seen a fig tree.  How do you use them?

Where are you located. I live in central Arkansas and have had to wrap all my figs or they died back.

I had a fig tree in Ohio and I was told to stuff all the branches with straw and wrap it in burlap for the winter.  I did that and it never died.  But I was wondering if I could leave it bare and just pile leaves at the bottom like you did.  Would it survive the winters in the north?
