Some new cars have sensors under the back bumper, put your foot under the bumper and move it back and forth side to side. There might be a sensor under the bumper that closes the tailgate. Might be a way to turn it off.

Honest suggestion. Look up rear gate lift cylinders for your car. Should be about $30. About a 10 min job to change them.

there’s a foot sensor under the car so if you wave your foot under a certain part of the car, the trunk closes there is a way to turn it off, i’m not sure how but i turned it off in my car
