OMG - the dog scene was hilarious. I also liked your little 1/8th inch trim idea to offset the fin nails. Cool!

Good video. One thing, your flashing over the window head should have end damns to prevent wind driven rain from draining behind the siding. Code requirement up here in Canada. Cheers.

this is very good just to the point i'm going to do this exactly i'm going waterproof the sides and top so when vinyl siding is install they can use j channel or i might use a router for the trim so the siding can just slide into
{ just some advice to grow your channel keep in simple remember your helping people that don't have much experience]

nice work & vid! didn't see any mention of an expansion gap for backer-rod and sealant between the window trim and frame, otherwise your caulking will fail. it'll also be wise to dog-ear your head flashing so water gets diverted from your sheathing.

This is a good video with great tips on how to, the thing that is bothering me is, why not bring the side trims all the way down and then cut the bottom board in between the two sides, this way will help for rain water to drain straight down instead of onto the bottom trim board, causing for rotting

Is the siding nailer he best gun for trim? I am going to be installing 5/4 trim and am confused about the right gun and nails for the job. I will also be installing hardie siding. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

This was EXCELLENT! I am trying to enlarge my rotted out window trim which is only 1”. I want it to be 2” as it looks nicer. My question was: Do I need to cut the siding out around the window and insert the new trim or do I just put the new trim over the siding and fill it with caulking. Your video answered my question - I need to trim the siding back! Good thing I do have a Multitool! I also see that you did not miter the corners. Is this also to better protect the house from potential water penetration?

Hi!, My home was built in 1996 with hardieboard siding. I'm told by a builder that the siding I have is old and most likely brittle, might even have cement in it so would be dufficult to cut cleanly and would open up s can of worms. The windows are sealed well as is. Do you have a video about trimming a window over existing siding? Is there a risk of a 1x4 warping since it's not as thick as a 2x4? What is the downside of installing trim over my existing siding? Right now my windows are not trimmed, looks dated. Thank you!

Thanks bud this is awesome!! Please keep doing what your are doing and posting! Big thumbs up and subscribing as long as also please stop using your hands to push through the wood though on your table saw and use a push board, too many stories I know of in people loosing the only fingers they are born with! 120 cuts in a day at 3 extra seconds is 6 minutes well worth the thumbs and digits especially for use musicians ! Did you put a drip groove in the bottom of the trim?

So by using 5/4 Trim, the wood siding just butts up against it? If I was installing the Trim on a house with Vinyl Siding, do I no longer need J-channel? Basically, do I use the same installation method for the trim and sill whether the siding is vinyl or wood?? Thanks to anyone who can answer this question for me! - Tom
