Pet Rats - What Is “Boggling”?

Even my mom thinks it's ADORABLE whenever any of my rats have boggles and bruxing (we lump it together as "Chittering") my bff has known many of my rats I've had over the years and loves them, but I don't think he totally gets what I mean because they're usually in my hair or under a pillow 😅 so I just tell him they're "purring" I'm sending him this.

Went to a pet store once. They had a big rat named George. I went to hold and pet him and he started to boggle like this. It worried me but the staff weren't concerned. They even commented, "he likes you." If I had the money and space at that time. He would have come home with me.

I miss having my rat laying on my shoulders bruxing. The little clicky sound of their teeth leaking up to the pspspspsps sound they make when their eyes pop out was so relaxing.

i recently bought a rat, and i was wondering why he was “purring”. i was getting pretty concerned about him. i’m pretty glad i found this video and realized it’s just a sign of happiness. (my rat is not in any way sick.)

I once was rat sitting my friends rat while she was gone, it’s eyes kept looking like they were going to pop out when they were excited, I thought they were going to die 😭🤚🏻

I grew up raising rats. My dad had a small foray into breeding them to sell as pets when we were living in Fresno. He didn't like the pet stores since they only raised them for live feeders back then. This was back in 2000. I remember because my first pet rat, Sandy passed away the same day my great grandmother passed in June. My sister was born in October and named after my great grandmother.

Every time I watch these videos it brings me back to that apartment complex. There were these Ukrainian identical twins who went to my school and their grandfather lived right next to us. I used to try to talk to him, even though he didn't speak English. We understood one another though. I used to show him our cactuses and he would show me the succulents he was growing. It was the sort of patio to patio conversation that reminded me of sitcoms like Boy Meets World or Home Improvement.

I know this is all rambling, but the boggling cuteness just kind of broke me. I miss having a little, fuzzy family member.

Ferrets dance and make "dooking" and clucking noises when they are happy and/or excited.

A comparison I can make is when parrots and parakeets grind their beaks whenever they feel safe, happy, and relaxed. And it’s super cute in both rats and birds!
