I'm on my first ever Macbook and was dipping my toes into the ecosystem to see how far 8GB RAM could go. I hit limits barely 1 month into use. Not even gonna list the problems I faced, it's just that I was sold on the great "Apple" experience I was already experiencing on iPad and iPhone where dozens of apps can be just left opened and it just works. It has left a bitter aftertaste because everything else about the Macbook is great but now I've got to spend more money again just to upgrade, just to get the Mac experience Apple was promoting. Noobs and first timers like me are the most vulnerable and it's the good work you guys do on YouTube to get the word out that really helps consumers look past the marketing hype and understand what they're in for.

Actually, the real problem is the cost of the upgrade. It is very difficult to understand why Apple charges so much for memory and/or SSD.

8GB is absolutely not enough for development. VSCode itself takes up 3 GB. It has to be 16 or 32 or 64.

I'm a pc guy for a very long time and I got 32gb of ram approx. 10 years ago.
Can't believe Laptop industry "struggles" offering customers a device what has more than 8gb of ram for a non astronomical price lol.

Even tho I got a fairly decent laptop from my company I work at. But never would I privately spend this amount of money for a laptop. The ratio performance to price ratio is a ripoff.

Thank you They should hear people and recognize their mistakes. The base model for that MBP should be 16gb ram and 512gb ssd. Thanks for actually making this video and making them see what we actually want.

There’s HP victus at 600 dollar price tag that has 16gb of ram(there are 8gb models but you can upgrade anyways), 144hz screen, rtx 4050 and r5 8645HS which is really mindblowing actually for that price

16 gigs is a no brainer if you can afford it. 8gb macbook is not a complete product. Crazy how they sell that shit instead of paying 2$ more to the manufacturer and put a finished product on the shelves.

Apple made the argument that 8gb of RAM on their devices are as functional as 16gb’s on a Windows machine. At the end of the day, we are judging Apples and oranges so the only legitimate metric is PERFORMANCE. You should test THAT out between 8gb of SOC performance vs 16gb of Intel designed processors. That is the fair test, NOT price.

As much as a better CPU is always appreciated

Ultimately it’s about how many different programs or processes your computer can juggle at the same time. 16GB ram has been the standard before 2020. I personally think 24-32 is where you’ll never lag behind

I am aware with the SoC apple approach and the reduction in memory writes between the cpu and gpu. But idk how these 8GB devices will support native AI integration in the near future

Have 2 laptops
One with 8gb and other is 16gb ram

8gb ram i only use for Job related typing through word, excel etc

While 16gb usually for gaming

Its simple. If you want your laptops hardware to be relevant for 4-5 years, 16GB is minimum to get now. And laptops are such things that dont fly off the shelves so if you look around a few stores you can find great deals. I just bought a Lenovo LOQ with Ryzen 7, 24GB RAM, RTX 4050 6GB RAM, 512GB SSD for a mere $900. I think it will last for 5-7 years.

It is a shame, and an Insult for customers... I know Power efficiency on apple silicon is amazing, also OS integration, but come on 8g of ram is laughing in the face of your customers. Corporate Greed

16 is hardly enough. Definitely not 8gb in 2024

I have a base model m2 MacBook air it works better than any windows PC at that price range
Maybe not in paper but in my real life usage - editing 4k videos, and graphic design works, and lots of internet browsing - it's just great.
Do I wish apple shiped it with 16 gigs? Hell yeah 💯
Nice video BTW

Awesome collaboration, this is the message that hopefully Apple will take note. You can buy any other cheap brand these that comes with a starting 16gb.

I would strongly recommend buying a laptop that is upgradable. Something like an HP Zbook.

32gb if you want to use your laptop for any more than 4 years

Just Josh's take is mostly accurate except he is wrong about the resale value. You actually get a much higher return on the base model of almost any Apple product (particularly with Apple's trade in). Sadly ☹️
