The guitarist is excited to be telling his own story after being misquoted several times through the years and sometimes not being treated fair by some of the press.
In an exclusive chat with Rock History Music Lukather told us, “The book will be about my childhood, how I got started and being a studio musician and how all that happened and all the great records I played on.” A years ago when I co-chair of the Canadian Jazz Awards we were honoring George Benson with a Lifetime Achievement Award and I asked Steve for a quote about working with him. He got back to us right away saying the first time he met Breezin' guitarist he was setting up in the studio and Benson starts ordering around thinking he was a roadie.
Of course you will much of Toto which has been his passion most of his life, He says, “Of course Toto is a huge part of my life but I don't have the right to tell the Toto story alone nor should I. That is a book to be written at a different time! Just perhaps from my point of view and no its not a sex-drugs tell all with salacious stories.”
Lukather says expect some very funny stories but adds, “I do want to tell the truth on many rumors and or out- right lies. There were a few very evil people that screwed us or me personally that will be called out and I get my say in it all for once.” Having said that he does say, 98% (of it will be) very positive and funny and also very informative in terms of how the records I played on were done, who came up with certain parts and working with the legendary artists, producers, engineers and songwriters I got to work with and positive stuff.” Yes, that also means “gear stuff for the musicians.
The guitarist says you will see many pictures that have not seen the light of day and in the end he'll have final say of everything on those pages.
Lukather is currently touring with Ringo Starr's All Star Band which also featuring Todd Rundgren, Gregg Rolie, Richard Page, Warren Ham and Gregg Bissonette. Toto have a new deal with Sony. Expect some new music on the way and a big tour in 2017. - by John Beaudin
