If you’re a child of the ‘80s, you probably look back fondly on the fun and funny movies that were a part of your childhood.

While a lot of ‘80s classics hold up overall, if you go back and take a look at a few of them, you might realize some messed-up details that you never thought about before. From the bizarre implications of Ghostbusters and its sequel to the ways in which the world would be far better off had Indiana Jones never gone searching for the lost ark, let’s take a look at the messed-up parts of ‘80s movies that you ignored.

Did you think any of this stuff was messed up when you first saw these movies?

This is what happens when you let someone with "Smartest Guy in the Room" syndrome make a video

This is a very interesting take on these movies but your take on Raiders of the Lost Ark is completely wrong. Belloq doesn't open the ark early because Indy blew up his planes. He opens the ark early to see what was inside before presenting it to Hitler. Belloq has a conversation with the German Colonel near the end of the movie talking about presenting the ark to Hitler and when he opens it only then knowing the mission was completed. Belloq would've opened the ark regardless what Indy did.

Thanks for trying to ruin my childhood. Didn't work though. I understand that movies are for entertainment, not reality.

In Raiders of the Lost Ark, you quote Indy saying "What about your boss - the Führer? I thought he was waiting to take possession." But Belloq's answer was rather important: "All in good time. WHEN I'M THROUGH WITH IT." Later he argues with Dietrich about having to wait to get to Berlin before being sure that they had the one true ark. The implication is clear: Belloq gets to use the ark first, then Hitler gets it later. If that happened, Belloq would have been destroyed, the Nazis who recovered the ark afterward would realize something dangerous was up, and in the end Hitler wouldn't get killed, but he would still have the ark - which, following the movie's logic, he could carry before his armies and be invincible (not at all what the Bible says about the ark, but hey, in this movie it's a good thing to have at risk).

Well, lemme tell ya something about museums, especially in smaller-populated areas (RE: GOONIES)--they aren't always run with the most qualified staff, often due to low revenues. Not far from Astoria, a small museum had a curator who had hand-made baskets on loan from a Tribal family. She developed dementia, and somehow thought those baskets belonged to HER, and took them home. Then a sleazebag who sells antiques managed to scam them off her for a couple hundred bucks (they're worth several hundred EACH). The family was told the baskets were lost, and there went their heritage...because the museum didn't realize in time that their "curator" had become extremely senile and was taking things home with her.

Just a correction on the Back to the Future segment. The Marty that leaves from Lone Pine Mall is actually the same Marty as left the first time from Twin Pines Mall. When Marty returns from 1955 he arrives 10 minutes earlier and the timeline was the same up until the point of his arrival, i.e. it was Twin Pines and George McFly was a dweeb. When Marty arrives 10 minutes early the world changes around him but he doesn't see it, Twin Pines becomes Lone Pine and dweeb Dad becomes successful Dad, the things change in the same manner as when the newspaper headlines change before their eyes in Part 2. The difference is Marty and the audience don't see the things change. In fact, both Martys and Doc are not witness to the changes

The thing in Goonies that I've never understood is in the end. Why is the Mexican lady, who just met the family the day before (or a couple of days before, however long it was), was going through Mickey's pockets over to the side by herself.

Time travel is a scientific impossibility. That's why I use magic.

Bill and Ted were only trying to graduate on time, not learn anything.

Wrong on Indy!! Belloq answered "all in good time" or something to that effect when Indy asked about Der Fuehrer.. Belloq wanted first crack at the Ark, and knew a Jewish ceremony must be performed before opening it (although it didn't help him) and they would not perform a Jewish ceremony in Hitler's presence.

At 8:40, you state that Judge Doom was Dissolved in Acid. That is Wrong! He was Dissolved in 'The Dip' which was actually Ink Dissolving Acetone.

I would be amazed that anybody who has seen the Princess Bride would not know that it was from a book considering that it says so in the opening credits.

Another thing that's always bothered me about Raiders is when he sets the medallion on the post for the sunshine to show him where the ark is. That would only work on, what, maybe 2 days out of the year? The sun would have to be at a precise latitude for that to work. I don't recall them ever saying they needed to be there at one of those 2 days.

Does anyone on Grunge staff know when things happened? WWII didn't begin until 1939 when Great Britain and France declared war on Hitler for invading Poland. Guernica hadn't even taken place until 1937 and the Sudetenland wasn't occupied until 1938. As for Indiana Jones, his country of origin didn't enter the war until late 1941. Even if Hitler, Goebbels, and the rest of the Nazi leadership had been killed, it's very likely that a midlevel fanatic would have taken control and wrought havoc on Europe all the same.

Also, Marty would have eventually stumbled into a universe where Doc Brown built his time machine out of a Bricklin instead of a Delorean. And Bill & Ted either didn't tell their time travelling friends how they died, or just as likely, didn't know as they had very little time to put a presentation together.

*Oh come on Grunge, the guy correctly guessing the Card was the Irony of the whole scene. It was done on purpose to show Venkman was just after the chicks.*
