What is clipping? How can you prevent it? Studio One features an amazingly transparent "brickwall" limiter that doesn't affect sonic quality of your mix, but instantly removes all clipping on the mix bus.

In today's episode, Gregor shows you how easy it is to set up a limiter on your mix bus to prevent audio clipping, and how you can save it as part of a template for future song productions.

I have been utilizing the limiter. I leave a lot of headroom in my mixes and then pump the gain with the limiter on my output bus. Very useful!

WoW! That is extremely useful! I don't have this problem a lot of the time, but when I do, and I do, this will now be my go to solution! Thanks, Gregor!

This is Brilliant!! Thank you so much for teaching this technique to us. I always struggle to dial in the correct volume curves on the individual tracks in my songs and now you've literally given us a one step fix. This is fantastic!! Thanks again!!

I cute my teeth on cubase pro 12, loved the workflow, really learned what it takes to work the daw and understand music production, from the comping to the splicing, the keystrokes, you name it, I learned to work around that, when I stumbled upon studio one 6 pro, it looked interesting, I decided to give it a 30 day demo run and all I can say is wow...I love the layout!! How quick the workflow is! and how it is not so much in your face like cubase is, the procedures are just so much more simple! Thank you gregor for this tutorial!! I cannot wait to learn more! I think you folks have a new presonus customer!

question, why not just turn down the master fader? or better yet start with proper gain staging from the beginning to avoid the problem all together. if your worried about preserving loudness isn't that the mastering engineers job? admittedly I come from a rock background and generally don't mix into any compressors or limiters as I was taught not to a long time ago maybe things have changed and i'm too stuck in my ways.

This has always made me crazy in Studio One and I only just realized recently that there is an included limiter.

it would be cool to have an option to auto adjust gain to avoid clipping when rendering stems. seems like a relatively easy solution

Dragging effects onto the master fader in the transport makes so much sense 🖤

Not sure if several of us on here have missed a point, but why is the level set so high in the first place? I can’t speak from any standpoint as a professional audio engineer, but every tutorial I’ve ever read on YT since starting hobby engineering in 2006 states that peak level on the mix bus should aim for about -6dB with -18 to -20dB RMS to allow sufficient mastering headroom, by judicious gainstaging.Or have we misunderstood?
