The most legendary valyrian steel sword in George R.R. Martin's epic high-fantasy series "A Song of Ice and Fire" is Aegon the Conqueror's bastard sword, Blackfyre. Blackfyre was last used by Daemon Blackfyre, Aemon Blackfyre, and Bittersteel during the First Blackfyre Rebellion. But where is Blackfyre now?

GODS WHAT A BADASS NAME!!

Its even more fishy that blackfyre gets lost on a battlefield with bloodraven next to it. And so just as it happens mormont has similar sword and crow on his shoulder. Maybe bloodraven influenced smth like he always does

2 CORRECTIONS: i said "during the reign of "aenys the first" when i meant "aerys the first" and for Aegon IV, i foolishly used a picture of Visery II (with kid Aegon IV) instead of a picture of Aegon IV himself as an adult

This is a really fun theory, I enjoyed every second of it. Sometimes, though, I wonder if George even knows where his story is going or just the general continuity of it all. He's weaved so much stuff in and out and in and out again that anything is possible at this point. Another great video dude 👌 I always enjoy when your vids drop.

I like the theory, but think it'll show up with Faegon

The first question that popped into my mind was, do you think Benjen Stark told Mormont about his sister and Rhaegar? How close were Mormont and Benjen? Did Benjen trust him with THAT secret? Because, putting your hypothesis together with this hypothesis, we get Mormont knowingly and willfully giving Longclaw back to its proper owner...

I like the argument but, maester Aemon was the only living person in ASOIAF who actually saw the sword Blackfire, he could have identified it well before he went blind and even after if Mormont´s sword were it.

08:09 jon won't be named Aegon in the books. Rhaegar had already a son named Aegon. D&D combined both the characters of Jon and Young Griff/Aegon.

Interesting... "wolves have claws, as much as bears" - and so do dragons.

And Jon is going to spend some time as a wolf before being reborn; why not his sword too?

LOVE THIS. So, the sword is just like Jon: a dragon hiding as a wolf. Symbolically perfect.

And if the wolf head is covering the dragon pommel, the sword taking off Rob’s head in the vision could be about the sword: taking off the wolf’s head to reveal the dragon sword.

Dude daemon blackfyre is such an underrated character! And we can all agree how dope the name Blackfyre is!

Just because the Mormonts are poor now doesn’t necessarily mean that they couldn’t have purchased a Valyrian steel sword 500 years ago, also many houses acquired their swords when some member performed a great deed or won in battle in the past, I mean the Mormonts gained their entire island by winning a wrestling match, there is no reason they couldn’t have come across a Valyrian steel sword in a similar manner. Also it seems in the past that almost every noble house in Westeros had a Valyrian steel blade at one point or another in their history GRRM has said that there are around 200 valerian steel swords still in Westeros.

I've always wished Longclaw could somehow be one of the lost Targaryen swords, but never thought it possible, because for some reason it never occurred to me Mormonts could be lying. And now I'm like 😲 Of course they could lie!

Also, something interesting: When Asoiaf was translated to Finnish, the name Longclaw was changed to Steelclaw. Why? Because in Finnish, someone who has long claws or nails is a thief. Just a fun little coincidence if it turns out Mormonts stole their Valyrian steel sword and lied about its origins.

why would Jeor mormont say its been in his family for 500 years if it wasnt why would it be for Jorah if it was Blackfyre

Aegon's dagger is more important, it's totally lightbringer, what's left of it anyway, after 10000 years or whatever

Another example of a unreliable narrator is the story of Bright Roar, In my opinion.
Which is supposedly lost on seeking treasure in Valyria, why a king that live on top of gold mine need treasure ? Could be in the moat at Coldmoat castle.

That makes a lot of sense. Great job of digging this out

Seems unlikely. The Mormonts are minor, poor Vassals of House Stark who are infamously known during the first blackfyre rebellion for being neutral for unknown reasons I believe (I think if was something to with Skagos rebelling but I could be wrong.) So it seems unlikely that someone from a minor house went south to fight in a battle, to come home with an expensive Valyrian Sword and no one asked them any questions about it, especially the honourable Starks which would be aware of the financial situiation and would know they couldn't afford a sword like that.

I've always wondered this and for the same reasons. I can't help but feel like both Aemon and Mormont knew who jon was. Mormont through Aemon.

Only probelm I have is Blackfire is the color black after it was pull from the funeral fire of Ageon1 and Long Claw is not black unless no one noticed Jon wielding a burnt looking sword other than that good one
