I had a teacher in 12th grade that recognized that I was dyslexic, and that the education system was not equipped to help me. He also recognized that I had a talent for dealing with things well when I was left to my own devices. So even though I did not have the grades to graduate, he let me pass anyway. He said, “I don’t think holding you back will do you one bit of good. I think you will do better when you have control of your own life
He was right.
Within a week of graduation I had a full time job, and I have NEVER been unemployed since (40 years). Within a month I was living on my own, and have taken care of myself ever since.
2 successful careers and 25 years of wonderful marriage because he had faith enough in me to let me go.

Thinking of you Ms. Russo 1977 Northview Elementary! My mother was terminally ill with a rare and devastating disease. The last thing I could concentrate on as a child was school. On top of that I was bullied by kids because Mom was "different". She gave me latitude and did not pressure but did encourage. Even came to my home a few times to work with me and to understand what I was going through. Most of my other teachers had berated me in class for not having school work done or not done adequately. Teachers can so easily make a word of difference in a child's life.

My class advisor back in 2nd year high school treated me like her own son. She shared her lunch with me and even the very first person to congratulate me during my high school graduation. After 12 years I've visited her at school and she's still the same talkative woman that I first met. I handed her cash and she just looked at me with teary eyes because she was so proud of me for my achievements in life and on that day she was supposed to borrow money from someone for her medications. Gotta love teachers.

I was a teacher for 40 years and keep in touch with many of my former students. There's one who's especially dear to my heart. She became a teacher and what's great is we share a birthday. One day I'd love to travel to CA to see her and visit the San Diego Zoo!

I love this so much. My 5th Grade math teacher was an influential person in my life... We even share a birthday. Through her I learnt for the first time, what determination and self-worth felt like. She left the country for a while, and I never thought I was ever going to see her again. When she was away, every year, on our birthday, I would always write to her. There was never a year I missed. But after a while, she stopped writing back.
In 9th grade she came back to teach us. I wish the story was as beautiful as this one. But she was never the same. Perhaps it was the time spent away, or the fact that I saw her through the eyes of a 15 year old, but the connection I once had with her wasn't there anymore.. It still breaks my heart till today. I loved her like family. I wish I was able to do something like this for her. She changed my whole world.
I left that school the same year, and started homeschooling and I haven't spoken to her since. She's married and she now has a baby boy. I wish I was there to tell her how much she meant to me.

That was heartwarming, ultra-considerate and very thankful on the part of the former student. What a great way to say thanks for the encouragement and memories.

I cried watching this. I remembered my 2-4 grade teacher. every time I go to my home country I always visit her and I show her pictures of my family and she shows me picture of her grandchildren. I was very sick my first year in school so I was behind my twin sister and everyone else in my class. Then, I moved to a new city and she help me get back with everyone else. She told me that I may never be as smart as the other kids but if I work hard I could get whatever I wanted to be. This year im graduating in a whole new country, with a different language but that didn't stop me from graduating with a 3.8 gap.

Best present a teacher can receive. To see such gratefulness and seeing the positive impact they had on a pupil‘s life.

Great teachers have such a positive impact

Yaaay for teachers! They say if you can't do you become a teacher.Well, they're wrong! They become teachers because they CAN DO! My wife is a teacher and has taught me alot in the 10 years I have known her. And my aunt was a second grade teachet. When I was with her one the town we lived in when I was in high school, a man in his early thirties came up to her, introduced himself and she was his second grade teacher( she remembered him) and thanked her for being the best teacher he ever had.He told her that she inspired him to become an engineer and wanted to thank her.She seriously had tears in her eyes and more than a few sniffles as she hugged him back thanking him for being a great student. And people wonder why I married a teacher. Everyday I tell my wife how proud I am of her for being such a devoted teacher! All hail the keepers of Society, Our Teachers!👏👏👏🤝🤝🙏🙏🙏

A random act of kindness for her former teacher who made the extra effort to comfort her when she was a needy little girl. What a lovely story.
