In 1971, at the height of the Vietnam War, Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland toured an anti-war comedy show across Southeast Asia. Despite being highly controversial, it was a huge success among stationed soldiers. Out of circulation and difficult to see for decades, F.T.A. has now been fully restored by IndieCollect in 4K.

I arrived at Fort Bragg just after Jane Fonda, Donald Southerland and Holly Near performed the "FTA" show at the local peace coffeeshop "The Haymarket" in Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1971. The wonderful morale boost that they gave to the GIs was palpable. Eternal thanks to all three and all others who made it happen for their unique and hilarious contribution to the cause of peace.

Thanks also go to Francine Parker, the director of FTA, who, with a grant from ArtCenter College of Design, was able to begin the restoration of this film. I attended the first (re?) showing of the film at the DGA. A panel of cast members spoke and answered questions after the screening. This is an important historical document.

My birth date was the third picked during the first round draft lottery. I was just graduating high school. I had also just that week been accepted to the local community college. I went to the local army recruiting station to see if I had any options. I was given a deferred enlistment which allowed me to go into service after I graduated. To this day I feel like a coward for being accepted to the local community college and avoid going to Nam. After serving 3 years stationed in Germany, I completed my BS and became a middle school science teacher with the help of the GI Bill. By then the conflict was over and I was careful not to tell people I served. After 20 years teaching people were thanking service members for their service.
I would tell them that I didn’t deserve it as I wasn’t a combat veteran. I joined the Army National Guard for 11 years then the Army Reserves for 5 years. I was attempting to make myself feel less a coward I suppose.

Well, I started to watch it and found it to be, well, unwatchable. I stopped around 20 minutes in. :(

Dear Mrs. Jane Fonda, you know how much I revere and adore you and pretty much support all your movements. I just have this lifelong dream and as a nobody like myself, I cannot do it and I may have to bury my dream with me deep inside of life without realize it, but let me be the most silly person to talk into vacancy of this monologue Youtube channel that I am not even sure you have any of your precious time to read tons of comments here and you can see this comment, so that makes myself a I still want to tell you my lifelong dream, and if you can try to be my fairy tale lady to realize it for me, I would be so gratitude to you: if you can make a movement to ask the Vietnamese government to change Hochiminh City back into Saigon and Saigon officially appears on World Map. You know ho chi minh himself never want this, the crazy, stupid and humiliation of the beloved capital of the South of Vietnam back then was invaded and stolen by the North Vietnam Communist and that name changing says it all how inhuman they are when they came into Saigon and destroy everything! But, Saigon never dies! its enriched and beloved culture have nurtured so many talents!
Well, with your magic power, I believe you can help me to realize this be my fairy tale lady!

I got the first draft notice in 1970, , and didn't go. They sent me 3 more notices. I was just a druggie and did not go. Now, its one of the most embarrassing times of my life. I wish i was man enough to have done my time! Sorry Jane... more so I'm sorry to all who served

This is the first time I have seen this. Truthfully, I don’t know why I watched. Despite what she says and does, I believe Jane Fonda laughs at and hates the US Government in general and the US Military in particular. She seems to think she champions veterans but I don’t see it. She is to wealthy and privileged to understand or really care. I understand though because many of our political leaders are just like her. I know she has cancer and that’s to bad. I think she is making movies like this because she knows most of the people associated with Viet Nam from the lowest to the highest are on in years and don’t matter any more. She wants to focus on younger generations who she thinks she can educate about various subjects like Viet Nam and by doing so she will be remembered in history as a loyal citizen and true patriot. FJF!
