Erdogan warns Greece of ‘heavy price’; Aegean airspace violations sparks tensions

Tensions arose in the east Mediterranean sea after Turkey challenged old rival Greece over alleged Aegean airspace violation. Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Greece of 'heavy price' if it harasses Turkish fighter jets over islands in the Aegean sea. Even though both countries are members of the NATO alliance, disputes over maritime borders have remained a point of conflict between the two countries.

Hindustan Times neglected to mention that (a) there is an active UN resolution for Turkey to withdraw its occupying forces from Cyprus; (b) Turkey invaded Northern Iraq; (c) Turkey invaded Northern Syria performing ethnic cleansing; (d) Turkey has a formal casus belli against Greece to take effect if Greece exercises its right (by international law of the sea) to extend its territorial waters to 12 miles, which is something that civilized countries do; (e) Turkey has a large army on its Aegean cost. Greece does have military on various islands that are close to Turkey and this is for self-defence, as allowed by the UN charter, in view of Turkey’s recent aggressive behaviour.
