Automate the Boring Stuff is a great book for learning Python. It covers Python 3. In this review I particularly like the project section in part two of the book. Using the python already taught in part 1, it shows you how to use python to do useful tasks with some great python tutorials It covers:-
Regular Expressions
Reading and Writing Files
Web Scraping
Debugging
Organizing Files
Working with Excel, PDF files and CSV files
and more.

You can buy the book here:

If it's a complete python course you are looking for, especially as a beginner with python then this is probably the python book for you. This is definitely one of the top 5 books on python.

The fact that you stated, "you probably don't know what you're doing, you just copied a bunch of code from somewhere and it does what you want it to do, " described exactly why I was fishing for a good python book in the first place. This even contains all of the beginner material from my programing class (in the book), Thanks for the book review and how easy and straight to the point you got.

I would like to see a bad review for a bad book. I enjoy your reviews, but they're all so damn positive. Where be the fire and brimstone?!

Great review, I'll start reading the online version of this book, I've already completed a python course at codecademy, but I think that reading this book will be very useful.

This is a really good book if you have progressed beyond print("Hello World").

Any advice for a book or a course to take after this?

I almost bought this book today. Instead I picked up: Mission Python: Code A Space Adventure Game by Sean McManus & Python Flash Cards (Eric Matthes ; no starch press). Also have Learn Python the Hard Way 3rd Edition.

Guess I'll be going back to the book store to get this one.

So is this book recommended for the complete beginner, with no coding experience?

Kinda late to the party, but what should I get: this or the crash course. I know something more than basics about some programming languages as I took them in high school, and would like to get into python. Which one should I get?

Thanks for sharing, best you update the amazon link to the UK, a lot more appealing to UK buyers.

IIRC, Al's web scraping was a great read! I also used PYTHON FOR KIDS by Jason R. Briggs. Not embarrassed to say I was in my mid-twenties. Ashamed to say I did once offend someone who was new to Python and requested help.
