Is Nikon D500 still relevant in 2023? Watch this video before you buy ! | Travellers | Alissa & Jay

Nikon D500 in my opinion is a masterpiece from Nikon. Nikon threw in all the technology at their disposal in early 2017. Since then they've improved it further by providing firmware update to support CF Express Type B card as well. Today, in 2023, this camera only lacks behind in a couple of areas. This was, for a long time in the history, the ultimate crop sensor DSLR camera. Now in the market, there are many crop sensor mirrorless cameras. But I don't see them compete Nikon D500 when it comes to wildlife photographs and low light capability. This still is the best. But if you were to invest in the Nikon ecosystem, beware, there is no future for F-mount systems. I am so sad to think that this camera might go from me in the years to come. But never regretted owning it.

I have been shooting BIF with the D500 since the camera was launched. I have purchased the Z9 and the Z 800mm PF last year. The D500 still beats the Z9 in speed to squire focus tracking, it is more sensitive to low light compared to the Z9 and locks auto focus tracking faster then the Z9 furthermore when it locks on it does not let go even when BIF enters busy background like trees and such. Not to mention that I have 4 different autofocus set up at the tip of my fingers. Pv button (Spot) Fc1 button (Group) AF button (3D) and Sub-selector center (Auto). I know when and how to use any of those at any time. I have been able to reproduce this to any other Nikon camera. All in all the D500 still beats the mirrorless in BIF. I like the camera so much that I purchased another one brand new before it is not available anymore. When the D6 becomes cheaper and close to out of production I will also purchase one. I hope Nikon launches the D7 (as they have register patent together with the D6 in the past ) Hopefully they increment to 16 FPS and fill the full frame viewfinder with cross type sensors. That would be the killer. Yes, no mirrorless. Sounds crazy but what I am saying about the D500 is not bla bla bla. It's hands on every day shooting BIF.

My d500 can only read my cfexpress card if NOT fully inserted -- if I fully insert it says err. if I leave the door open and the card not fully inserted it works?

Für mich ist die D500 eine der besten Kameras, die NIKON bisher auf den Markt gebracht hat. Eine Legende zu Lebzeiten. Meine D500 wird mich sicher nie verlassen. Es sei denn sie wird mir gestohlen.

Your summary about the camera as great !!!! nice quick review !
I have been using Nikon for video work with Nkon D7500 you can make in filmmaking just have to remember to use manual focus, the 1.5x crop in 4k and use Flat Profile for color grade ... not the best, far away from Fuji or Sony log ... but you can have great results ... ;D
My friend can i ask you for Events and another things which one have the more reliable Auto-focus ? Nikon Z6ii or Nikon D500 ? I mean speed, low light etc
