Hello, and welcome to the first part of a sewing project which I’m really excited to introduce! I’ll be making a costume for Shakespeare’s Desdemona (from the play Othello), so this corset tutorial will be part of the researching / development phases before I begin with the final piece.

In this video, I’ll be sewing a 16th century corset inspired by several historical garments (and some more general research into costume making). It’s by no means intended to be 100% historically accurate, but by exploring a practical project, I’m hoping to become more familiar with the sewing techniques of this era - so hopefully this will help me improve any future period-based projects!

Anyway, I really hope you enjoy the video - and watch this space for more on the costume project soon! Have a brilliant start to the spring in the meantime :)

Beautiful job! And interesting way to close a corset or bodice, never would have thought of this option
