We are back again with the first Kia to be released on our channel. This 1.6L 2013 Kia Rio has a couple bolt-on chassis modifications and makes a full 138 horsepower at the crank. We met up with a class from Douglas College who has been working alongside with Evilla Motorsports. Based out of California, Evilla Motorsports has designed parts to improve overall handling of this consumer car.

Enjoy!

🔰Gear we use.

"As a car enthusiast, i would laugh at a kia rio" then you are not a car enthusiast, only a car snob.
The best thing of car entusiasts is the guys that take weird and different cars and do things to them.
Everyone mods a vw or what ever, but only a few take the daihatsu ( like the mcm guys ), and different kinds of cars and do stuff with them. Those are the real enthusiasts, the ones that do stuff different from the others.

20 second intro is a little ridiculous.

Also Kia is like the 90's honda. Good but under appreciated

You can have fun in almost any car honestly.

Really enjoyed that this video showcased a economy based car; highlighting how you can have fun in any car whether it is a exotic or a regular commuter.

When the dealer wont approve you for a stinger so you ask them what you are approved for ^

As the owner of this little Kia - I agree with all of what Roads Untraveled said and am happy there are organizations such as Evilla Motorsports who can help commuters have a more engaging drive. It's also finding projects that are odd and different that curbs my interest - yes it is a geeky car and it's the whole point. It's a fun car to drive because your foot is always to the floorboard.

Next up Evilla Motorsports - these handmade parts truly make a difference and he builds parts for the Kia Forte Turbo and the Hyundai Veloster. Both of which are based on a similar chassis, but with much more power. What the suspension modifications did was to make the car communicate better and take care of certain shortcomings. So thank you to Roads Untraveled and Evilla Motorsports for this project, it was fun to do. First thing I am going to do, is to enhance the shifter feel.

No, the badge didn’t throw me. As a car enthusiast I see past the badge on a car and look at the work that’s been put in instead, and judge based off of driving dynamics. Not hating on you Marcus, but in the end it shouldn’t really matter what badge is on a car.

My little 2013 Kia Rio has served me well for 5 years now, has plenty of pep for city driving (turn off ECO mode, that shit turns it into a slug), and with the rear seats down holds a surprising amount of shit in it. Gets great gas mileage even with ECO mode turned off, although I wish the gas tank was a little bigger. Because they're so small, it's easy to dust people off the line at a light and I do it all the time. I've fit 4 average size adults in my car perfectly fine, although I wouldn't want to sit in the back on a road trip.

They may not be sportscars, but they hold their own and I would totally recommend a Kia Rio to someone looking for a daily driver that is economical, comfortable, and still has a little bit of kick when you need it most.

I think this is a sharp little car! The statement about the KIA badge is exactly why the Stinger exists and is embarrassing everything out there. This car right here should be the perf car from Stinger, especially with Ford and GM getting out of the market, plenty of room to grow the brand!

I also like that someone is out there making parts for this car, tip of the cap to you!

I've had numerous "real" enthusiast vehicles throughout my life. I purchased a new 2016 sedan 6M Rio for an amazing deal and it is a ridiculous amount of fun with the Evilla suspension kit. Mine is a commuter but sees autocross and road courses often. The Rio and Evilla have exceeded my expectation and I dont plan on selling it when it's done with commuting.

138hp in a city car this sized in Europe would be stand out impressive! 8.9 to 60mph is decent compared to what we get in the UK Rio at 13/14+

The Rio is a great everyday car. It's 138hp feels more then sufficient on a 2300lbs car. The build quality is good and the car is full of features that other brands charge for or some not even available.

Only this channel can make a boring car look so good. Great job 👌. Keen to see an update vid on the mr2!

If you feel like the transmission is soft that's probably due to proper lubrication signifying the transmission fluid is doing its job as to not damage the gears. I have a 2013 1.4 Turbo Diesel Rio 92bhp which shifts and regains torque immediately if your revs end up around 2000 after shifting. The front of the car will lift itself up faster after shifting and the engine won't "hang". I beat many cars in the traffic lights by utilizing its torque on 2000-3000 RPM. I am very satisfied with its transmission and the car overall, as in 8 years now it has not had an issue in anything besides light bulbs whose average lifespan is 5-7 years anyway. A smooth transmission is soft on the gears and the engine. If you wish to slam gears your transmission will die out years earlier than it is supposed to. When a transmission is rough, there is more friction which reduces its lifespan and make it become softer as time progresses and the compartments wear out. Shifting like an ape and using excessive force on the stick and clutch will only lead to damage faster.

Also, regarding your quote on the description, you are allowed to go to war. All you have to do is enlist to a PMC. It feels weird having someone seeing racing as a substitute for war. All you need is dumbness (already there) a disregard for human life and the capacity to do things you are told without questioning. If you are obstructed from going to war, don't go and bring it to your neighborhood, there are kids there, just go to the track and "fight" with your friends where you can abuse that stick and rip it apart all you want.

Nice to see a small hatch on one of these channels. Well done Roads Untraveled. Lots of small hatches go under appreciated these days. As car manufacturers are pursing power. I own a Suzuki swift sport and love her every bit. Less is more! :)
