First, let’s start with the basics.
It originates at the humerus (medial epicondyle) and descends along the forearm.
It inserts into the lateral flexor retinaculum and the palmar aponeurosis.
Its actions are wrist flexion and flexing the fingers towards the center.

Now, let’s get to the fun facts:
🤙 Not everyone is the proud owner of this muscle!
The percentages are debatable, but a common hypothesis is that up to 30% of the population lacks this muscle in one or both hands.
🤙 It comes in different anatomical variations.
🤙 Its presence or absence doesn’t influence grip strength.

Want to know if you have it?
Turn your palm up (supination) and bring the fingertips of your thumb and little finger together.
If the tendon over the top of your wrist pops out - congrats! You are a lucky owner of a Palmaris Longus.
If nothing happens, there are other tests you could easily find online.
