Unfolding inside seven rooms of the Palatine Gallery in Pitti Palace, the Gucci Cruise 2018 collection by Alessandro Michele was woven with a Renaissance influence. Gowns with crystals, pearls or bows worn with elaborate hand bracelets. Lapels on men’s brocade suits pinned with three dimensional brooches of faces from Greek mythology: Silenus, the companion of Dionysus and Hercules, the son of Zeus. A new way of writing the House name—Guccy, Guccify and Guccification—found by Alessandro Michele through tags on Instagram, appeared on ready-to-wear and bags. Accessories crafted in retro shapes featured GG and butterfly hardware, and gold laurel crowns—evoking the goddesses of old Hollywood—were carried by hand or circled the models heads.

Ahh the luxury of old days when care, time, craftsmanship and passed on knowledge came together. The trance traditional chants at the beginning. Quality materials, stitches, comfortable and flattering shapes. The respect for the past while remaining in the present. All of these elements in this show. A piece of art!
