Gucci Spring Summer 2018 Fashion Show: Full Video

Looking at the women’s and men’s fashion show by Alessandro Michele. Revealed in the multiple influences was a shoulder bag printed with Guccy in SEGA's font style, the entertainment and arcade game company popular in the 80s. Tracksuits with graphic inserts and gowns reminiscent of ice skater outfits were studded with crystals. Sir Elton John’s stage costumes from the 70s designed by Bob Mackie, Annie Reavey and Mr Freedom inspired a special lineup including a harlequin checked jacket and a sequin detailed violet dress.

I’ve never seen “everything at the same time” pulled off so well. It captures vintage fashion from the 50s to 80s from several cultures and it ties together so beautifully.

Alessandro continues to shakeup the convention of catwalks and collections with this show. His vision seems to centre more on individual pieces, masterfully curated into ensembles on each model, with no need for the show to be restricted to an obvious theme (or even season - aka the full length 'summer' fur coat). We are given no light or time to study each creation in detail, but are presented a fleeting glimpse to drink up the aesthetic and respond in the instant. Perhaps this is why it feels so fresh and current.
