Windows XP is a true showcase of what real, amazing software is. Software that's nearly 20 years old, still holding just under 1% of the market and still firmly in everybody's minds. Pretty awesome to see how it formed from the 9x series too.

12:18 That boot screen is aged like wine. Somehow still looks modern.

Windows XP makes me feel comfortable every time I boot it up on my retro gaming PC. The same applies but to a lesser extent with 95 and 2000. Such a great era.

Some of you who have been watching this channel for a while may remember a series I did a few years ago on XP's development. Well this is a redux of that video, made in the new style seen in my newer development history videos. Hope you enjoy it!

14:53 Gotta love that hilariously euphemistic re-phrasing of “looks like ass”... XD

What was interesting was that when Microsoft updated XP to SP2, the boot screen dropped “professional” label. It only says “windows xp”

Windows XP was probably, without any doubt, the best Operating System ever from Microsoft ! 👍👌

I was born in early 2002, and I grew up using Windows XP.

Hello Michael, great video! I am one of those 1% of XP users as a still have this OS on my medical office on 2 PIV machines, one of them also running a Virtual PC with W98 and a bunch of legacy medical softwares. Also, as I happen to like and collect some old PC builts, I happen to have yet another PIV with XP at home, besides an Asus 2007 EEEPc netbook also running an original XP install to this day. Thks and regards!

The two-tone grey look of the Watercolour theme reminds me a fair bit of Office XP's general look and feel, which makes sense as Office XP was completed a few months before Windows XP was.

I always found the XP interface calming and familiar, and still do. I've taken great pains to search for ways to recreate the look and feel on modern devices.

I've watched a lot of videos on Windows XP development, yet I still learnt something new (namely the wallpaper)! Thanks for the video.

Whistler / Watercolor is still my fav theme / shell style. Nice underrated update to the classic Win98/2k look.

Imagine if we suddenly got a Windows Odyssey from Microsoft

This was the last version of Windows where I used beta builds for a significant amount of time. I used a couple of Vista builds when it was Longhorn, but it was too buggy.

I used Whistler so much I did a report about it in my computer class I was taking at the time. Good times.
