Jehovah’s Witness Refuse A Life-Saving Blood Transfusion, But The Doctor Gives It Anyways

Jehovah's Witnesses are people whose religious views are that believe that a human must not sustain his life with another creature's blood, and they recognize no distinction "between taking blood into the mouth and taking it into the blood vessels."

My JW mum refused a blood transfusion and died when I was 12 - such a waste

Sadly, this kid was probably shunned for getting the transfusion.

This happened to me at 13 and my parents said no to blood so it was court ordered. I am no longer a JW or believe in any of it but I think it’s so important to realize the kind of pressure these parents are under. You don’t get to keep medical issues private and something that life threatening isn’t going to happen without at least one whole congregation knowing about it. I think if that weren’t the case, most of them would accept a life saving blood transfusion for their children if it really came down to it. However, aside from that there’s also a group of elders called the HLC that come to the hospital and ensure that you do not sign off on any blood transfusion. If someone does accept the transfusion either for themselves or a child/unconscious family member then they will be completely shunned. Even by family. They literally have to go about their lives as if the person who’s life was saved, is now dead. And the worst part is, it doesn’t have thing to do with logic, science, or even the Bible. It is entirely about control. So I guess my point is before judging the parents on this, you gotta realize just how indoctrinated they are. It’s hard to think critically when you’ve been taught not to your entire life.

I nearly lost my best friend to leukemia when we were 8 because her JW parents refused blood. Thankfully, the state of Minnesota intervened! Today, he’s alive and well, occasionally complaining about menopause symptoms, haha!

This happened to my cousin. They wouldn’t give him the blood transfusion he desperately needed so the hospital took over custody long enough so he could have the transfusion and then gave them back custody. Fuckin nuts

My parents made me sign a "no blood" card at 11, and to keep it with me at all times back in the 80's. They would let me die and say they would see me in the " new world ". Yeah, I'm not messed up at all.

Are we at peak JW? Despite 1, 283, 209 baptisms in 5 years, the total number of JW’s only increased by 229, 873, an average of only 45, 975 per year. In just five years 1, 053, 336 followers left the Watchtower Society.

I'm so glad I never needed the blood or I would have died at 9
Sad rule these elders sit and eat rare steak
Sitting in blood juice
But made sure I didn't get blood...

I remember being raised as Jehovah’s Witness and my parents teaching us to rip out IVs if they try to give us a blood transfusion. I remember my mom saying if we died we would be glorifying God. So glad I left that cult

Sad parents would rather want the child gone

This stuff right here is why i dont involve religion. Its so sad that JW kids (if they choose to leave their church) first birthday is when they are an adult. They also cannot celebrate mothers day, fathers day.

Parents should not be allowed to let their children die over a religious belief. The child has zero say if they are raised in this cult. From experience I can say we dont have a choice. I was born a jw and I was terrified because I knew my mom would gladly let me die if it meant I "honored jehovah" we arent allowed to leave because our family and friends will all shun us.

Parents would rather keep their beliefs than their own child?🤨🤨you might as well not have children bro

In this example (but happens in real life) he’s 16 who knows if in 5 or 10 years the kid even wants to continue being a JW. Plus these people are brainwashed so thank you doctors who have common sense

I heard about something similar, but unfortunately they didn't get a blood transfusion and passed away, I didn't know that this was something JW's did

I have one on the schedule next Tuesday. Sometimes they say, after the preacher and spouse leave the room, it’s ok just do what after you have to do to keep me alive, but don’t tell anyone.
