It's astonishing to think that Catherine was just a teenager when she became entangled in the web of Henry VIII's court

Cranmer offered Catherine way out - she could have claimed that she was pre-contracted (in other words engaged) to Dereham, her first lover. That way she would have avoided execution. In those days those who were pre-contracted to each other were allowed to sleep together. But she was in such a panic that she was unable to grasp what Cramer was trying to explain. Since her death, future heirs to the throne were expected to marry virgin brides. This all went wrong when Charles was told he couldn't marry Camilla because she wasn't a virgin and forced to marry Diana because she was. After that ended in disaster, the virginity requirement has been dropped. It is tragic that a young girl was ruthlessly used by her family as a political pawn then lost her young life because of it.

From what I gather, Catherine's execution was a picnic compared to the fate that awaited Culpeper and Company, who were drawn and quartered...a very nasty way to go.

Catherine Howard was born in 1523, not 1524.

She was raised by her step-grandmother. Not stepmother.
