Why Does Neptune's Moon, Triton, Orbit Backwards?

preview_player
Показать описание
Neptune's largest moon, Triton, orbits the opposite direction of all other moons in our solar system, and no one is sure why. No, Triton is not a "Death Star" or an artificial object, but it may not have originated near Neptune.

"There is one problem with the Death Star theory."

Really? Only one?

Such dramatic direction...
A distraction and a drain.

Why do all modern documentaries have overly dramatic editing??!!!
I long for the good old days of BBC Horizon and Equinox

Oh for Christ's sake. I thought this would be an interesting science video when I clicked on it.

Voyager did not 'discover' that Triton orbits retrograde - that has been known for some time. Triton was discovered in 1846. It's orbit was postulated to be the result of a close encounter with Pluto, and Triton was captured from the Pluto/Charon group flinging Pluto into a wider orbit. That close encounter could explain the features seen on Triton, Pluto and Charon.

Did the science channel just suggest that the moon is a "DEATH How the fuck can they call themselves science.

So I went back to a book I owned as a kid, and we seem to have known Triton's orbit was retrograde LONG before Voyager 2 arrived there. So apparently my research is better than the Science Channel's.

What a pathetic video. A 5 minute video with 10+ experts and this programme establishes that it isn't the Death Star? Skip to 3:40 and save yourselves time!!!

What happens when a Pluto brother plays by his own rules. Triton is lucky, not destroyed, but trapped elsewhere for a long while.

Triton was supposed to be its own dwarf planet but got sucked into Neptune's gravitational pull. Boom solved!
