FYI you can just enable automation recording, make sure your track ISNT armed, and then hit record. Won’t automatically join all the clips together which I find easier for project organisation

I've had a lot of success just clicking the knobs and moving my keyboard knobs to assign, I'm using a novation product tho I'm not sure if it's an Ableton support thing or not

I really wish I had a MIDI controller with a working control knob. Every time I turn the knob it randomly cuts to 0. That makes it useless
