The dichotomy between the catchy beat, the energy and fun of the song paired with meaningful and melancholic lyrics, and then the unexpected switch to that poignant ending is brilliant. The sudden change in tone is uncomfortable and confusing - just like the pain of losing a parent, especially at a young age. This is evident when you watch reactions to the song where they haven't paid attention to the lyrics or don't have any prior context. It's especially meaningful to me as a fellow 'orphan'. It's kind of like when you're enjoying a moment in life, travelling, keeping busy, and then the pain just comes back and hits you like a freight train.

Though I appreciate the overall positivity of the song based on his dad's words and also the sense of 'letting go' of that pain that's holding you back and just finally living. It's also a song that will bring Europeans together, which is what Eurovision is all about. I wonder if Joost is a fan of Dark btw (iykyk)? The visuals in the ending remind me of that scene with The Unknown. His enthusiasm is infectious. Will be rooting for him and The Netherlands! Much love from the UK! PS: When they started the segment with the guy naming all his rabbits Joost Klein, I thought the subtitles were real until the British woman spoke about Brexit in English lmao.

I still can't get over this injustice, my favorite song, my favorite performer, the only one who openly dared to stand up for what he believes (the other performers allegedly supported him but not really, no one withdrew from the finals, no one lifted a finger to prevent this injustice...).
