Building a Modern Plywood Blanket Chest

In this project I build a DIY blanket chest with just plywood and 3 tools: a circular saw, drill, and router. I live in NYC, and woodworking without a workspace means you've got to do things a bit differently - for this project that meant taking advantage of free plywood panel cuts offered by Home Depot. More info about materials in the blog post below.

I like the idea of a channel exploring woodworking with these constraints. It came out great. I think I might be tempted to get a locking, water tight deck box for some of the tools just to save on trips up the stairs.

very impressive doing this on top of a apartment or condo with minimal tools. Ive seen really bad wood stuff come from high end decked out wood using the spiral staircase moving stuff, very impressive. your project turned out very nice, esp going against the elements outside!!!

this project lands somewhere between shaker fine craft and flat pack modernism in all the best ways!

Well done with the tools you have. You could use just dowel joints instead of pocket holes, or do dados with router. Or even do dados and then drill holes for dowels from outside and leave dowel heads as detail pieces.

It always amazes me how people justify using pocket holes or biscuits to join parts. Not sure why. If it works, use it. 🙂
