Excellent! This must be why dishes near the sink and clean laundry not put away drain me so much!

Absolutely true! And always make sure everything is squared away at night before you settle in front of the TV or go to bed. You will sleep so much better.

I needed this video. I was wondering why despite brain dumping all my to-dos on paper I was still anxious about them. Now I know why.

OMG, That is spot on...Thank you for saying it outloud. We ALL need to be reminded of that! How many times do we avoid doing tasks that we fear, or tasks we just do not want to do for whatever reason. So we sit and think of all the reasons why we don't or can't get them done. But, once we "just do it" our minds calm down, we feel a sense of accomplishment and best of all, like you said, we don't have to think about it any more! 😊

Yes, this advice is exactly what I needed to hear. It’s worth the extra push to finish a task whenever possible.

Yes, exactly but sometimes you can't if it involves other people stringing it out. for me this involves unresolved trauma with people who don't.

I have always been doing this. I realised early on that this is my only way to cope especially when I'm stressed. Its like my brain gives a mental sigh of relief when I'm finished with a task. This helps me tremendously in living with my ADHD as well ❤

Easier said than done, but complete tasks before moving on to the next.

I write almost EVERYTHING down. Lol. Now it’s more like a lifestyle really borne out of trauma work. Def the big things and the jumbled up thoughts and feelings but also the kind of inner slave driver stuff too. The practical things. It goes into the phone notes or on the paper and out of me. Although the trauma stuff is far more complicated and just writing isn’t like an instant cure, but it always helps me to sort of start down “the path” which eventually leads me to where I need to go with such things and it helps in other ways like clarifying and organizing all the stuff inside of me. It also helps me get to a lot of “why” things instead of bottling it all up where it was heavy and at times paralyzing me or causing inertia.

But yah. A system also for practical things. To do. Ideas. Shopping lists. Shopping list system is brilliant tho. Keep a magnet pad on the fridge and a magnet pen and sharpie holder. When an item gets low I just jot it down right then. Then when the list gets more full, time to go batch shop/run errands. I immediately forget it when I put it on the list so it def helps me not clutter my brain up with so much minutia. To do list is kinda the same way tho. And I just stopped also trying o make a lot of things happen by a certain time or on a certain day. In this way I can give myself both grace and more flexibility. I would note that what is prob more important tho is to shut down that slave driver in your head. Tell it sternly that it’ll get done when it gets done. And don’t let it beat you up if you didn’t get it done as soon as you wanted to. And finally another important list for tasks. Jot down what I DID get done which helped me realize just how much I did and how hard I was already working. Another way to fight that slave driver. Show it the paper and say whatever. I’ve done enough work today Tyvm. Bugger off. So yah. Ya know. Firstly considering if you’re simply trying to do too much in too short of a time span. Rome wasn’t built in a day and they had a lot more help anyways. Speaking of…also considering if there are any items that just need to be scratched entirely…and why are we even doing them and to what end?

Those of us touched with the 'ole ADHD, want to finish tasks so much, but the power to start another task & still not finish, is so compelling lol. Also on some of my own projects I don't know at what point it's finished.
I think this hack will be very helpful if I give a rule to myself. In a restricted environment I get stuff done. Left to my own devices my mind is so creative I'll be doing a thousand fun things but not much to show for it.

Close the loop, and if I can’t complete the task yet, I complete any steps I can, then bullet point the ones I still need to do so at least I see progress.

Very convincing. But there are already as many tasks on my "virtual to-do-list" as there are stars in the universe. And because my labour contract ends next year, I thought about an education this morning... Difficult with such a long task list! So, how can we get all the unnecessary tasks out of the head and focus on what is important, if we don't know what's important or - in my case - don't feel able to do the most important things?
