Snake oil has legitimate health benefits.

In this video, I explain the benefits of snake oil. Yes, truly! Snake oil has legitimate health benefits. It’s been used in Chinese medicine for a long time. It’s loaded with omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EPA. They’re essential for brain and nervous system health, as well as regulating your moods.

Snake oil has 20 percent more EPA than salmon oil, as analyzed in 1989 by the Western Journal of Medicine. It’s good for joint pain, arthritis, and bursitis. It supports a healthy cardiovascular system.

But I want to talk about quackery for a minute, which is a pretended medical health care skill. You may be familiar with the website Quackwatch. It’s very much against alternative health care, and run by a psychiatrist. This is ironic, because there’s no mention of the quackery to be found in psychiatry, which fits the definition of quackery more than any other profession.

In psychiatry, there’s no talk therapy; no blood test or medical test. In 2017, there was $20 billion dollars of fraud in the mental health care field. I find it ironic that a psychiatrist pushes the danger of alternative medicine, when they’re in a profession laden with more fraud than any other profession. And if you check out the profession’s bible, called the DSM, you’ll find many vague descriptions of mental health problems. I believe there’s a lot of attention paid to alternative health providers to keep the focus off of the quacks in the psychiatry profession.

Although I know snake oil has become synonymous with quackery, I encourage you to consider it for its many legitimate health benefits.

They also make big money on that book! As a teacher I can't believe how many educators and parents want to diagnose little children with all kinds of false things to give them an excuse to give the kids drugs to make them easier to control and not have to teach discipline.

Dr. Berg nailed it on the head, the biggest quackery definitely is psychiatry. I myself & persons I know once received treatment from a psychiatrist & the medication prescribed were guinea pig treatments for patients giving vaguely inaccurate symptoms, prolong treatments were usually detrimental to the patient instead.

To say you have taken the words right out of my mouth on this profession and the medical too would be an understatement. Again I say follow the money and see where it leads. It is quite an eye opener when you look into it.

So true about psychiatry being quackery! Everything is based on the assumption that Seratonin and the other chemicals in the brain are low or not balanced but no blood test to measure it. That is scary!

I am in a doctoral program for clinical psychology (PsyD). My biggest frustration is having to deal with psychiatrists. Many of them over medicate clients and belittle both the science and philosophy of talk therapy. A psychiatrist once told me that case studies have no scientific value. I asked what was the last case study he read. He said he hadn’t read any. He also believed grounded theory and all other forms of qualitative research had no value. So many psychiatrists follow a twisted skepticism that perpetuates a politicized diagnostic system (the current DSM) rather than a dimensional approach to understanding psychological suffering. Qualitative research highlights how individuals experience symptoms on a dimensional rather than categorical basis. I need to refill my deadeye meter after that rant.

This is pure awesomeness, right down to the expression on Dr. Berg's face... and I'm NOT referring to the "lecture" on snake oil! ;) In fact, how he managed to pull this off without bursting into laughter is more miraculous than the snake oil! 🤣🤣🤣

Couldn't agree more. One of the major problems in our society today is telling people it's not their fault, they can't help it, they have some psychological condition and they are helpless victims and you need this or that to get through life (often medications that mess up your body chemistry and are later found to be dangerous). It removes personal accountability and self-reliance, with far-reaching implications (rise of liberalism, dare I say?).

About 30 years ago a psychiatrist prescribed a drug that was known to have serious side effects to my brother, I woke up the next morning to the police telling us he hung himself in a tree by the lake.

I’ve interacted with a few persons who have seen a psychiatrist before for whatever reason and after the sessions they are worse than when they started
